STATUS NOTIFICATION
Sunday Focus: We must bring the light of Christ to the world. The servants of God are lights to the world. There is no way to serve God without bringing light to others. Isaiah and John the Baptist were both called lights. Jesus is, of course, the light of the world, but he also desires that his followers bring his true light to the world. Liturgy of the Word In the first reading, Isaiah prophesies that Israel will be gathered to the Lord. In the second reading, Paul reminds the Corinthians of their call to be holy. In the Gospel, John the Baptist points to Jesus, calling him the Lamb of God, and testifies to what he saw at the baptism of Jesus. Special Prayer Intention for Catholic Health Care A court case began this week involving St. Paul's Hospital. The case pertains to whether faith-based health care facilities are permitted to operate in accordance with their values by not providing Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). It will challenge Catholic healthcare and its place within Canada's publicly funded healthcare system. Lord Jesus, Divine Healer, you sought out the sick, the marginalized, and those cast aside. We pray for all who receive care at St. Paul's Hospital, for their families and loved ones, and for all healthcare workers who serve with compassion. We entrust this court case to your care. Grant wisdom to those who must decide it, that justice may prevail, and that Catholic healthcare may continue its mission without compromise. Help us to protect those who are most vulnerable and to build a society where every human life is sacred. Amen. "Now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb..." Isaiah 49:5 God have given each of us different gifts. In order for God's plan to work, you have to do what God is calling you to do, and I have to do what God is calling me to do. And guess what? God has given each of us a different plan! So, stop comparing yourself to others. Don't let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and become the saint that God is calling you to be. Inspired by Catholic social teaching, this year's theme Open Hearts, Healing, Hope reflects the profound belief that healing is communal. We are grateful for our Catholic health ministries as partners in the healing ministry of Jesus, fostering trust, promoting justice and respecting the dignity of every human person—body, mind and soul. Pray with us during the Week with special daily reflections and prayers. Learn more and find resources at beholdvancouver.org/events Are you called to the priesthood, diaconate or religious life? Could it be that you or someone in your family is being called to be a priest, deacon, brother or sister? Learn more and contact the Archdiocese of Vancouver Vocations Office at vocationsvancouver.ca Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (Prayer for Peace) Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hopе; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
