Hobart on 14 August and have scheduled a second course on 3 September. The

Mona
I reviewed Mona in the March 2011
issue of this newsletter, and made a
repeat visit last weekend for The Red
Queen exhibition. There are many
interesting new exhibits and I
particularly enjoyed the following:
 Data.Tron - the bridge of the
Starship Enterprise on a giant
scale.
 Kuba - trespass in 45 lounge
rooms while the couch potatos are out
making cups of tea, and soak up the
broadcasts of 45 life stories.
 The Pausiris mummy - journey across the
Styx and share some time with the
timeless Pausiris.
 Kryptos (by Tasmania's Brigita Ozolins) -
follow the binary codes through the
Kryptos maze and come face-to-face with
your doppelganger.
Pandora Radio
The Pandora Radio app lets you create your own Internet radio station, based on
any song or artist that takes your fancy. The free version comes with advertising but I
haven't heard an ad in two months of listening.
Nant Distillery
The Nant Distillery in Bothwell is worth a visit. A fully-functioning restored water
wheel grinds the barley for an award-winning, single-malt whisky. The visitor centre
offers tours of the complex for $15, including tastings of six different whiskies. And if
you have $6,600 to spare, you can invest in your own barrel of whisky and receive
9.5% interest compounded over four years.
RaceShape Heatmap
If you ride a bike you will want to know about the RaceShape Heatmap. RaceShape
has downloaded all the Strava data (data uploaded by hundreds of thousands of
cyclists from across the world) and superimposed it on Google Earth. A system of
colour coding shows which roads and trails are most frequently ridden. By zooming
in on your own area you can see how many people ride which routes (road and offroad).
This is an excellent way to discover new places to ride, especially when you
are away from home.
